Sae-Ddeul-Chae House, Yangpyeong / 새뜰채 주택, 양평

Nestled in the lush greenery of a mountainside, Sae-ddeul-chae is a 100-square-meter single-story house designed for an elderly couple—a tranquil retreat where the sounds of birds and a forest garden harmonize.

​

The living room, oriented due south, serves as the heart of the home, allowing each room to open naturally toward the exterior courtyards. The southern yard, composed of a deck and lawn, forms a private resting place surrounded by trees, while the northern yard, located in front of the kitchen, features sixteen planter boxes that create a seasonal garden tended by the owners themselves.

At the core of the architecture lies the expression of structure. A dry construction method was applied to ensure high thermal performance while allowing the steel framework to remain aesthetically exposed both inside and out—realizing a tectonic structure where technical function and sculptural beauty coexist in harmony.

The two sloped roofs define the spatial character of the house, giving it a distinctive volumetric composition. Soft natural light enters through the side windows formed beneath the sloping roofs, flowing along the white oak ceiling and creating a warm, serene atmosphere. The movement of light and the placement of openings draw the surrounding landscape inward, offering a spatial experience where interior and exterior are seamlessly connected.

Sae-ddeul-chae Residence is a small yet deeply considered house where nature, structure, and material exist in harmonious balance.

산중턱의 짙은 녹음 속에 자리한 새뜰채 주택은 노부부를 위한 30평 규모의 단독주택으로, 새소리와 숲속 마당이 어우러진 고요한 휴식의 공간으로 계획되었습니다.

​

주택의 중심이 되는 거실은 정남향으로 배치되어 각 실이 자연스럽게 외부 마당으로 이어집니다. 남측 마당은 데크와 잔디로 구성되어 나무에 둘러싸인 사적인 휴식처를 이루며, 북측 주방 앞에는 16개의 플랜트 박스를 두어 계절마다 주인이 손수 가꾸는 정원이 자리합니다.

건축의 핵심은 구조가 드러나는 방식에 있습니다. 건식 공법을 적용하여 단열 성능을 충분히 확보하면서도 철골 구조가 외부와 내부에서 미학적으로 노출되도록 하였으며, 기술적 기능과 조형적 아름다움이 조화를 이루는 텍토닉한 구조를 구현했습니다.

두 개의 경사 지붕이 만들어내는 입체적인 형태는 집의 공간적 성격을 규정합니다. 지붕 아래 형성된 측면 창으로 부드러운 자연광이 들어와 화이트 오크 천장을 따라 흐르며 따뜻하고 평온한 분위기를 만듭니다. 이러한 빛의 흐름과 창의 위치는 외부의 경관을 내부로 끌어들이며, 실내와 실외가 자연스럽게 이어지는 깊이감 있는 공간 경험을 제공합니다.

새뜰채 주택은 자연과 구조, 재료가 조화롭게 어우러진 작지만 깊이 있는 집으로 완성되었습니다.
